Talking head
My script for Django
Unchained By
Hasib Ahmed
Hi my name is Hasib Ahmed.
Today I will be discussing a recent film that I have watched and actually quite
enjoyed because the storyline was amazing. The film being Django Unchained. Now
this movie is quite recent because it was first released in 2012 in December.
Well not that recent but not too old either. The movie was directed by Quentin
Tarantino. Oddly enough Tarantino also wrote it as well.
He is a famous director. He’s
probably most known for in my opinion kill bill, which is about a bride who is
meant to get killed on her wedding day but gets her sweet bloody revenge.
Anyway the stars in this movie are Jamie Foxx who is Django the main person in
this movie then Christoph Waltz known as Dr King Schultz who is also the helper
to Django then the villain in this movie who is Leonardo di-caprio who is the
evil Calvin Candy. The damsel in distress is Kerry Washington who is known as
Broom Hilda Von Shaft. The film I would say is a western thriller.
Clip of the movie (Mise-en-scene)0.01-0.27 seconds
Setting: The
setting in the clip I have chosen is set in the villain’s house. It starts off
with the villain having a bit of a feud with the helper over him the villain
wanting a handshake because of a deal they just agreed to. Now the setting that has been chosen for the
scene is really effective because as it is the villain’s house it is also a
western Victorian house. In the clip I have chosen there are actually two
settings the first is in the living room where they are all sitting and the
second is the mini-library room. In the background of the living room you can
see candles placed all around the room, which connotes that it is quite an old
house. In the next room, which the helper storms off into, to cool off is the
mini-library room. Analysing the background of the library you can see a big
bookcase, which connotes that it has been set in the olden times. Also if you
kind of look back at the history of the western age most country homes didn’t have as many
items in there houses so the setting shows overall that he is a rich man.
Props
1.03-3.49
In the clip above that I have
chosen, in my opinion it is ONE of the best scenes in the whole movie. It
displays how the props in this scene are effective just by looking at the scene.
The scene is a gunfight that involves Django and the henchmen fighting against
each other. This scene just looks good when you see a gun pulled out. The prop
as you can see is the guns that really stand in the scene. In most movies guns
represent as a weapon of destruction. It is usually given to the enemy of the
film to show that they are to be feared and not to be messed around with. As
this movie is set in the western era it is common for everyone to have a gun
for protection. In the above clip you can see the fear on Django’s face when
his helper is killed. It is then he pulls out a gun to protect himself and his
wife and ends up having to take out most of the henchmen just to survive. It
also connotes that the gun is also a survival tool.
Lighting
and co lour.
In this scene the lighting
and colour is effective because in the scene as you can see, in the background
a woman has been the subject to a whipping because you can see her on the
ground in pain. Now as you can see a whole new light has come into the scene and
the person who has brang in the new light is Django because the background has
just lit up when he has arrived. You can see bright lights in the background,
which connotes that maybe before they were trapped and now joy has come. With
him just arriving the whole scene has lit up because maybe has taken care of a
demon that kept prisoners hostage.
Facial expression and body
language.
This is a still image from
the final clips of the movie. As you can see he looks like he is at the top of
the world. Well that’s true because he’s overcome every obstacle in order to
get to his damsel. He has stayed strong for her when he’s been the subject to
the whip when he was a slave. As you can he has got a very serious look on his
face but at the same time he’s relieved in the picture that it’s all over and
that he’s found his wife. He’s standing tall with glasses on whilst smoking a
pipe, which connotes that he is relieved to get past by everything in one
piece. Looking at his body language it connotes to the audience that he has
dealt with everyone and hasn't let no one survive who has tortured him.
Sound
Sound
In the above clip i have chosen there are a variety of sounds. The first is diagetic sound. Diagetic sound is sound within the films world. The diagetic sound in the movie clip i have chosen is that at the start whilst the sheriff is giving his orders you can hear the chains rattling from the horse and carriages. Also in the background you can hear the villagers running away and talking to each other because they are terrified at what has happened. After the scene in the next part there is a short silence then he talks again giving them an ultimatum. The next sound in the clip is non diagetic sound. This is sound outside of the films world and this happens right at the very end of the clip. If you listen very carefully to the sound that is being played you can hear like a drum roll and some heroic music. It's almost as if he's turned the tables around on the Marshall.
Editing
4.10-4.52
In this last scene i am going to be talking about the editing and the special effects. Its not the whole clip i will be talking about, just the final bit where the house blows up. Now this scene is effective to the audience because Django has been through alot coming all this way for his wife so the audience would think he is still in the mood for more revenge and he is when he comes face to face with stephen the villains helper. Firstly, he shoots him in the leg in which you can see some blood pouring out then he shoots him again in the foot this time and again you can see some blood pouring out then he finally drops on the floor and says you'll pay. It is then Django lights the house on fire with his pipe and enters outside. The house then explodes leaving Django and his wife happy.
